Vampire Academy is an American best-selling series of six young-adult paranormal romance novels by author Richelle Mead. It tells the story of Rose Hathaway, a seventeen/eighteen-year-old Dhampir girl, who is training to be a bodyguard for her Moroi best friend, Vasilisa "Lissa" Dragomir. In the process of learning how to defeat Strigoi (the evil undead vampires) in St. Vladimir's Academy, Rose finds herself caught in a forbidden romance with her instructor, Dimitri Belikov, while having an unbreakable bond with Lissa.

Summary: Rose Hathaway is a dhampir, half-vampire and half-human, who is training to be a guardian at St Vladimir's Academy along with many others like her. There are good and bad vampires in their world: Moroi, who co-exist peacefully among the humans and only take blood from donors, and also possess the ability to control one of the four elements - water, earth, fire or air; and Strigoi, blood-sucking, evil vampires who drink to kill. Rose and other dhampir guardians are trained to protect Moroi and kill Strigoi throughout their education. Along with her best friend, Princess Vasilisa Dragomir, a Moroi and the last of her line, with whom she has a nigh unbreakable bond, Rose must run away from St Vladimir's, in order to protect Lissa from those who wish to harm the princess and use her for their own means.

In Vampire Academy (novel), guardian in training Rosemarie "Rose" Hathaway and Moroi princess Vasilisa "Lissa" Dragomir are brought back to their school, St. Vladimir's Academy, after running away two years previously. On returning, Guardian Dimitri Belikov, who was the leader of the team of guardians sent to retrieve the two, is assigned to be Lissa's guardian and offers to mentor Rose in her guardian training. He also believes Rose can be an excellent guardian to Lissa due to the presence of a rare one-sided psychic bond to Lissa, which allows her to know the latter's thoughts, emotions, and whereabouts.

Rose agrees, knowing this is the only way she will be allowed to remain, and on graduation, be Lissa's guardian. When Lissa becomes depressed and engages in self-mutilation, it is revealed that she has a miraculous ability to heal others. Rose reaches through her bond while confined to her room to find that Lissa is being kidnapped. She sneaks out of her room to tell Dimitri that Lissa has been kidnapped, but they are distracted by a lust charm planted by Victor. After Dimitri disposes of the charm, she directs a convoy to the kidnapper's hideout and the school guardians are able to rescue her from the man she has called "Uncle" all her life, Victor. Dimitri reveals that he has feelings for Rose but cannot have a relationship with her because of their age difference, and also because he won't be able to guard Lissa if she is near him. This is where the first book, Vampire Academy, ends.

Two races of vampires walk our world. One, the Moroi, are alive and wield elemental magical. The other, the Strigoi, are undead and evil-feeding on the innocent to survive. Rose Hathaway-a half-vampire with poor impulse control-is training to be a bodyguard for a Moroi princess. Learning to decapitate and stake is hard enough, but Rose's real danger may lie in an illicit romance with one of her instructors.

The first book in the series, Vampire Academy, was published in 2007; it was followed by Frostbite in 2008. The third book in the series, Shadow Kiss, was published in 2008. The fourth book, Blood Promise was published in 2009. The fifth book, Spirit Bound, and the sixth book, Last Sacrifice, were released in 2010. As of 2013, the series has sold 8 million copies in 35 countries.

In 2010, a film based on the first book in the series, Vampire Academy, was announced. In February 2013 Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry, and Danila Kozlovsky were announced as part of the cast. Filming began in summer 2013 and it was released on February 7, 2014.

The Lego Movie is an 2014 American-Australian computer-animated adventure comedy film directed and co-written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, and starring the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman. The film is based on the Lego line of construction toys and was released on February 7, 2014. Upon its release, it received generally positive reviews from critics.

Summary: An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together.

This original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

The wizard Vitruvius attempts to protect the "Kragle", a superweapon, from the evil Lord Business. He fails to do so but warns Lord Business of a prophecy where a person called the "Special" will find the Piece of Resistance capable of stopping the Kragle. Years later, Emmet Brickowski, an ordinary construction worker with no special qualities, comes across a woman, Wyldstyle, who is searching for something after hours at his construction site. When he investigates, Emmet falls into a hole and finds the Piece of Resistance.

But what will its legions of block-building fans think of the movie when it opens on Feb. 7? To find out, I took 12-year-old Lego champion Ivan Sanchez to an early screening. Ivan is a member of his 7th grade Lego Robotics league in Brooklyn, and he’s competed at the annual New York City tournament at the Javits Center. His mom, Delmy, who also joined us, is the team coach, and she estimates spending $2,000 on the toys last year. “Ivan builds swords and guns,” she explained. “I should have brought you some samples.”

Oblivion is a 2013 American science fiction film co-written, produced and directed by Joseph Kosinski and based on his unpublished graphic novel of the same name edited by Radical Comics. It stars Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Zoë Bell, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The film was initially scheduled for release on July 10, 2013. Since the 3D re-release of Jurassic Park was set for July 19, 2013, the US release date was moved forward to April 19, 2013. According to Kosinski, Oblivion pays homage to science fiction films of the 1970s.

A veteran assigned to extract Earth's remaining resources begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself. One of the few remaining drone repairmen assigned to Earth, its surface devastated after decades of war with the alien Scavs, discovers a crashed spacecraft with contents that bring into question everything he believed about the war, and may even put the fate of mankind in his hands.

2077: Following an invasion by alien Scavengers (Scavs) sixty years earlier which destroyed the Moon and nearly destroyed the Earth, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is Tech 49, one of the last few humans stationed on earth. He lives in a work tower thousands of feet above the Earth where he and his communications officer and lover Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) are part of an operation to extract the planet's remaining resources, especially water. Jack and Victoria supposedly have no memory of the past, having undergone a mandatory "memory wipe" five years prior. They now maintain contact with civilization via a video link with their commander, Sally (Melissa Leo), and are due to join the rest of humanity on Titan in two weeks. Jack suffers from recurring dreams and flashbacks of New York before the invasion and an unknown woman. Assisting Jack in his work are weaponised 'drones', airborne machines that scour the landscape to destroy the remaining alien resistance.

As Jack nears the end of his mission, a spaceship, the Odyssey, crashes on the surface, brought down by a Scav homing beacon mounted on the top of the Empire State Building. The ship is carrying a number of sleeping capsules containing human beings in hibernation. Jack rescues a woman, Julia (Olga Kurylenko), from the wreckage, but a drone arrives and destroys the other survivors for unspecified reasons. He immediately recognises Julia as the woman in his flashbacks. Shortly afterwards, Jack and Julia are captured by Scavs, who are revealed to be humans living in an underground stronghold. Their leader, Malcolm Beech (Morgan Freeman), who was a young soldier when the invasion occurred, claims there are no aliens on the planet and demands that Jack reprogram a captured drone to destroy the 'Tet', the massive tetrahedron-shaped space station where Sally is based. Jack refuses, and Beech allows Jack and Julia to leave, advising Jack that he will find answers to his questions in the supposedly dangerous 'high-radiation zones'.

Jack and Julia climb the ruins of the Empire State Building, where Julia reveals herself to be Jack's wife. Despite his initial shock at this revelation, it allows Jack to reconcile his flashbacks, knowing it to be the truth. The viewing balcony in his dreams was where Jack proposed to Julia. She tells him that the ship in which she crash-landed was a NASA shuttle, and that they need to find the final recording of the shuttle's log. Victoria witnesses the two embrace and kiss from a camera aboard Jack's ship and becomes struck with grief. Returning to the tower, Victoria refuses to let Jack enter and informs Sally that they are no longer 'an effective team'. Sally remotely activates a drone to kill Jack, but kills Victoria instead. She orders Jack to bring Julia to the Tet for debriefing, but they flee.

The Host is an upcoming American science fiction film, adapted from Stephenie Meyer's novel of the same name. Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel. It is set to be released on March 29, 2013.

Summary: Parasitic aliens called "souls" have invaded the Earth and have begun to possess the minds of humans. Melanie Stryder's body has been inhabited by a soul named Wanderer, but she refuses to fade away. Wanderer starts to see Melanie's memories, in which she sees her loved ones and eventually finds a connection with them, too. Melanie is trapped inside Wanderer's mind, speaking to her mentally, when both decide to set off and find Melanie's loved ones. 

When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world. 

Producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, and Paula Mae Schwartz acquired the film rights to The Host in September 2009, but Open Road Films later acquired the film rights, and made Stephenie Meyer, Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, and Paula Mae Schwartz the main producers. Andrew Niccol was hired to write the screenplay and to direct the film. In February 2011, Susanna White was hired to replace Niccol as director, but he later resumed the role in May 2011. Saoirse Ronan was also cast in May as Melanie Stryder/Wanderer. On June 27, the release date was set for the film for March 29, 2013, and it was also announced that principal photography would begin in February 2012, in Louisiana and New Mexico. The film received a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America for "some sensuality and violence."

After the G.I. Joes are framed as traitors by Zartan, who is still impersonating the President of the United States, the Cobra Commander now has all the world leaders under Cobra's control, with their advanced warheads aimed at innocent populaces around the world. Outnumbered and out gunned, the Joes form a plan with the original G.I. Joe General Joseph Colton to overthrow the Cobra Commander and his allies Zartan, Storm Shadow and Firefly.

G.I. Joe Retaliation isn't a perfect action movie and probably won't replace the spots reserved for Die Hard or Terminator 2: Judgement Day on your movie favorites list. It has the occasional slow scene and head-scratching jumps, like how the deserted Joes made it from the Middle East back to the United States without military support, but those moments become quickly forgettable once the next action sequence kicks off. 

What G.I. Joe Retaliation does provide is roughly two hours of explosive action based around a well crafted storyline with some humor thrown in for good measure.
